Eno Explains Why Akwa Ibom Is Seeking Assistance From FG On Seaport

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has explained why he presented President Bola Tinubu with two requests when he led a delegation to Abuja on Friday.

Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State during the Match Edition of Prayers held at the Banquet hall, Eno said the nature of the two projects and the dire need for urgent interventions, made it imperative to request the intervention of the Federal Government.

According to him, the Federal Government is in a position to assist in the success of the two projects.

“The major request was for the President’s support to develop the Ibom Deep Sea Port, as well as intervene in the different gully erosion sites across the state, especially the Brook Street – Udo Inwang gully erosion reclamation project which has been transformed into a resort, ” he said

He noted that but for the quick intervention of his administration at the Udo Inwang – Brook Street gully erosion sites, a large area and property, including the Government House, Uyo Club, the Nigerian Correctional Center and others would probably have caved in given the fast pace at which the erosion was destroying the area.

Governor Eno said the reclamation and transformation of the area into a resort have been audacious projects by the State government, adding that the Federal government needed to intervene.

He said there was a need for corroboration between the State and the Federal Government and appreciated the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, for finding time amidst other pressing engagements to commission health facilities in the State and for his promise to support the State in its health sector development.

Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to the welfare of Akwa Ibom State and its people, stressing that he will stop at nothing, within the legal boundaries, to ensure that the ARISE Agenda is actualised for the good of the State.

He said delivery advisors will be appointed next week to oversee specific projects to ensure timely completion, adding that amidst all the efforts and strides thus far recorded, there was a need to remain focused on God in whom all things are possible.

He appreciated everyone for taking part in the March edition of the covenant service and urged them to continue to pray for the State for the gift of men, and resources to succeed in its development needs.

In his message on the Theme, “Oh God … Our Eyes are on You,” and taken from 2 Chronicles 20:12, Rt Rev Otuekong Ukut, Bishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, Atamunu Diocese admonished Christians to remain focused on God said, the source of all good things.
