Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has directed the payment of February, 2025 salary, with “any outstanding arrears,” to workers within the next three working days.

February salary has been delayed with the workers expressing disappointment in the face of rising cost of living.

This directive is contained in a Press Release, signed by the State Head of Civil Service, Effiong Essien, and made available to the media.

The release expresses the concerns of the Governor over the delay in the payment of February, 2025 salary following the “verification and re-verification of staff who were absent or failed the minimum verification checks” and the inconveniences caused to the workers and their families.

The Governor has also “assured of concerted effort at reverting to the previous standard schedule of prompt payment of salaries, the statement adds.

Meanwhile the governor has also directed that more local contractors be engaged after being registered to enable them bid for projects.

Governor Eno gave the directive during an unscheduled inspection of the ongoing construction of the ARISE Senior Citizens’ Center along the medical corridor in Uyo.

The Governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and commended the contracting firm for excellent job execution, urging companies handling projects in the State to borrow a leaf from U&K Limited.

He said that from Monday, a portal would be opened so that contractors who have registered with the Akwa Ibom State Government can submit their profiles, enabling the State to have a pool where jobs can be uploaded for them to bid on.

The Governor said he decided to visit the site to see things for himself following a report he received from the Delivery Advisor, Dr. Itawan James, during the just-concluded project review session, acknowledging that what is on the ground barely a month after the groundbreaking is commendable.

He, therefore, advised people with a proven track record in the construction industry to register their companies on the portal to enable them to take up various projects earmarked for execution.

Governor Eno encouraged young people to engage in meaningful ventures and earn a living for themselves, stressing that U&K Limited has opened up job opportunities for the people in the community.

“So I ask our young people to take advantage of this. You can set up a small construction team that can take these jobs and do them. This is done by a young man. He is opening up the roads. All of these things are doable.

“Once you fix your mind on doing something, you can do it. He has over five hundred (500) workers, I am told, here. So you can imagine that people from this community will now have jobs.
