Security forces in Zamfara State have eliminated eight bandits during a fierce gun battle in Fegin Kanawa village, Wonaka District of Gusau Local Government Area.

The clash happened in Friday around 4:30 p.m. when a joint team of Police operatives and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) from Fegin Mahe village responded to intelligence reports of an impending attack.

According to Zagazola Makama, as the team approached the area, they were ambushed by the bandits who had taken strategic positions.

The security personnel returned fire with superior force, killing eight of the attackers while several others fled into nearby bushes with some injuries.

During the exchange, Inspector Tasi’u Lawali of the 42 Police Mobile Force, Gusau, sustained gunshot injury to his hand and mouth.

He was swiftly evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau and is reported to be in stable condition.

In the aftermath, police have intensified bush-combing operations in search of the fleeing suspects.
