Eguma Blames Poor Attack For Enyimba’s Winless Run

Enyimba’s coach Stanley Eguma has revealed that the team’s misfiring attack is responsible for their poor run of form in the NPFL.

The People’s Elephants have struggled for form in the last few games, failing to record a win in their last 10 games in all competitions.

The poor form led to the sacking of Yemi Olanrewaju, who was replaced by Stanley Eguma last week.

The former Rivers United manager took charge of his first match against Bendel Insurance on Thursday, which ended goalless.

Enyimba have scored a paltry 14 goals in 16 matches in the NPFL, Eguma has blamed the club’s blunt attack for the poor return of goals.

He said: “I’ve only been with the club for about 48 hours, and from what I’ve observed, it’s clear the attack is the biggest headache and problem of the team.

“Thankfully, this is the last match of the first round. We’ll have to utilize the transfer window to bring in quality and clinical finishers to strengthen the attack.

“The team plays as a unit, but they need better tactical attacking qualities to ensure we score goals consistently. Without goals, you can’t win games. This principle will also apply to other areas where we are lacking.”

Meanwhile, Former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye, who was unveiled in Aba last week is confident that the club will bounce back in the second stanza of the league.

He said: “We still have a lot to do because the league is still young.

“The first round has just ended, and we still have the second round. I have to work together as a team and make sure we correct our mistakes.

” I think we can compete, and we will get there soon, and for players like me, coming back to the league is good”.

Enyimba are winless in their last five matches in the NPFL, and they ended the first stanza in the ninth position with 24 points from 16 matches.

They will be back in action against Black Bulls at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday in the CAF Confederation Cup.
