Egbin Power CEO Champions Sustainable Energy at 2025 Shell Conference
At the 2025 Shell Power Conference held in Ikeja, Lagos, Mokhtar Bounour, Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, underscored the company’s firm dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s electricity sector through sustainable development initiatives.
Themed “Powering Nigeria’s Energy Future: Bridging the Gap Between Ambition and Action,” the gathering convened key decision-makers, industry specialists, and policymakers to chart a course toward a more efficient and reliable power industry.
During the forum, Bounour commended the candid and progressive nature of the conversations, emphasising the urgency of a unified effort to address longstanding issues in the power value chain.
He stated:
“While compliance with health and safety standards comes first in generating electricity safely, our actions and commitment to providing adequate and reliable electricity to power industries, hospitals, strategic institutions, schools, and homes will enhance socio-economic development in Nigeria.”
Bounour stressed the critical importance of cooperation across various segments of the power supply chain—generation, transmission, and distribution—to achieve meaningful improvements.
“Our collective actions and collaborations among players across generation, transmission, and distribution will catalyse improvement in the current situation. We have explored how collaboration can unlock transformative investments, improve liquidity, and accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies that will drive operational excellence,” he added.
He maintained that the sector must embrace innovation, operational efficiency, and strategic alliances to realise its full potential.
“The challenges ahead are real, but so is our shared determination,” Bounour affirmed.
He expressed confidence in the industry’s capacity for reform, fuelled by stakeholders’ shared vision and drive. He also reiterated the need for robust partnerships and proactive regulation to propel progress, while assuring that Egbin remains fully committed to upgrading infrastructure and processes to meet Nigeria’s energy needs.
“We are further driven by our commitment to real progress and turning our vision into results by building a truly sustainable energy ecosystem,” he said.
