EFCC Officer’s Killer Not A Doctor – NMA

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Anambra State chapter, has disowned an alleged medical doctor said to have killed an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking with THE WHISTLER on Monday, a member of the NMA Awka zone, Dr. Obinna Aniagboso, said the alleged killer, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, is not a medical doctor although speculations have it that he supplies medical equipment to some facilities in the state.

The Anambra NMA Secretary, Dr. Obiaeli Ifeanyi, also confirmed on Monday that Ikechukwu is not a member of the body.

THE WHISTLER reported the killing of Aminu Salisu, an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, by Ikechukwu who is suspected be be an internet fraudster.

EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said the incident occurred when the commission’s operatives went to arrest Joshua and a few suspected online scammers in the early hours of January 17, on Dr. J.O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka, Anambra State.

The Anambra NMA statement reads, “Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu is NOT a staff of NAUTH as has already been debunked by the NAUTH management. Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu is NOT a member of NMA Awka Zone and no member has been able to identify such a name as either a colleague or member of NMA.

“Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu is NOT a Medical Doctor (not even an academic doctor) as widely published by the media though he deals on medical supplies and has been addressed as Doctor.”

“We also demand immediate retraction of all defamatory publications from the EFCC & media where the suspect was addressed as a medical doctor. We urge the media to do due diligence before making their publications.

“While we commiserate with the EFCC and the bereaved family on this unfortunate incident, please be rest assured that the medical profession is a noble one and Nigerian Doctors are responsible and remain law-abiding.”
