EFCC confirms arrest of 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confirmed the arrest of 93 youths, suspected to be internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

DAILY POST had reported that the EFCC operatives in a raid in the early hours of Sunday, arrested the suspects during a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party held at the OOPL, Rounda fun spot.

A viral video showed how some youths scampered for safety during the night raid.

The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese confirmed the incident but did not provide details.

He said , “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know”.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on its official X account on Sunday, the agency said the raid was carried out by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, following credible intelligence about their suspected involvement in internet crimes.

“ Upon their arrest, 18 vehicles and mobile devices were recovered from them.

“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded” the statement added.

Recall that on Wednesday, Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, larrested a suspected internet fraudster alongside 55 others at K- Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro area of the State.

The raid according to the agency followed reliable intelligence on the suspect’s alleged fraudulent and criminal activities.

Items recovered include two locally- made pistols, six posh cars, 89 mobile phones, laptops and several incriminating documents.
