Education key to tackling insecurity, poverty in Zamfara — Gov Lawal
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has said that addressing insecurity and poverty in the state requires prioritising education.
Lawal made the remark on Friday in Gusau during the distribution of instructional and learning materials procured under the 2023 Federal Government’s Universal Basic Education, UBE intervention funds.
He said 408,139 teaching materials would be distributed across the 14 local government areas, stressing that teachers cannot succeed without adequate resources.
“If we want to overcome insecurity and poverty, we must send our children to school,” the governor said.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Maryam Yahaya Shantali, said every child in the state deserves access to quality education.
The Zamfara Coordinator of UBEC, Nafi’u Yusuf Zurmi, confirmed that the state had met its counterpart funding obligations and assured of continued partnership in promoting basic education.
The Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Professor Nasiru Anka, said the materials were purchased with UBEC intervention funds and state budgetary allocations.
