EDO: Three Officers Face Orderly Room Trial For Extorting N380,000 From Corp Member

Three police officers, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and two Inspectors, have been queried and are facing an orderly room trial over the unlawful extortion of a National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member in Edo State.

The development was in response to a complaint by a member of the NYSC on X (formerly Twitter), over the unwarranted extortion of N380,000 from his bank account.

The X user, Omobruno Igbadume, on October 17, reported that officers stationed at Agbede Road, Benin Expressway, had forcefully taken the said sum through a Point of Sale (PoS) attendant, leaving him with N20,000 in cash to return home.

The police in Edo, on Wednesday, however, updated the public, noting that it has identified the officers: DSP Madaki Abdulwahab (Team Leader), Inspector Arikpo Vincent; and Inspector Oboh Sunday.

The police in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Moses Yamu, also noted that the money had been retrieved from the cops and returned to the victim.

“The DSP has been queried and the two inspectors of police are facing an orderly room trial for their unprofessional conduct,” the statement said.

The police further revealed that it frowned at the officers’ actions while vowing to ensure they were punished to serve as a deterrent to other officers in the command.

Meanwhile, the corp member had confirmed receiving the money via his handle, saying, “Thank you @YamuJoel @PoliceNG_CRU for handling the situation with care and speed. I have been fully refunded.”
