‘Edo State Will Burn If PDP Loses’— NLC Chairman Odion Olaye Warns Ahead Of Guber
Odion Olaye, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Edo State, has stated that “Edo state will burn” if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, is not declared the winner in the upcoming September 21 gubernatorial election.
The made the statement during a campaign rally in Egor, Benin City, raising concerns about potential unrest and post-election violence.
Olaye, while speaking to PDP supporters, predicted that the party would secure 80 percent of the vote in Egor, but warned that the state could face chaos if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to announce Ighodalo’s victory.
“I want to assure you that PDP, our party, is going to win Egor 80 percent come 21st of this month and on 22nd of this month, they must declare Asue Ighodalo the winner.
“If they refuse to do that, Edo state will burn,” he said in the video.
His comments come against a backdrop of heightened political tension, with both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) trading accusations of electoral manipulation.
The PDP chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, alleged that the APC planned to tamper with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) through fake INEC staff, the accusation was dismissed by APC Campaign Council spokesperson Prince Kassim Afegbua.
