Edo State Police Command has assured the public of ongoing efforts to rescue three seminarians abducted from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, Ivianokpodi-Agenebode, on July 11.

The attack, which led to the death of an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has prompted a major security response.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is personally coordinating the rescue operation.

He confirmed that specialised police units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, were immediately deployed, while a new Tactical Division has been established in Ivieukwa community to strengthen security and enhance intelligence gathering.

According to Yamu, the police are collaborating with other security agencies and leveraging advanced intelligence strategies to ensure the safe return of the seminarians.

Addressing a video circulating online showing the kidnapped victims, Yamu appealed for calm, assuring the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, the victims’ families, and the public that every measure is being taken to secure the boys’ release without compromising their safety.

“We want to reassure the diocese, parents, and members of the public that the command is working tirelessly to rescue the seminarians unharmed,” he said.

The police also extended condolences to the families of those affected, commending them for their patience and cooperation during the ongoing operation.

Yamu emphasised that the Command remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Edo State, pledging to provide regular updates on the situation as progress is made.
