Edo Partners NELFUND To Offer Undergraduates Subsidised Fees, Stipends

The Edo State Government has partnered with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to provide subsidised fees and monthly stipends to tertiary students in the state.

The initiative aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for Edo State citizens.

According to Commissioner for Education in Edo State, Dr. Pally Iyamu, the partnership will guarantee all Edo students access to university and tertiary education without paying school fees immediately.

Iyamu noted that the partnership will also give the students access to a monthly stipend meant to offset their expenses while schooling.

The commissioner encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing the state government’s commitment to lessening the financial burden on parents.

“The partnership will serve as a big relief to parents, who before now have to cough out hundreds of thousands of naira for their children’s school fees,’ Iyamu said.

Iyamu appreciated the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating a road map where all students can thrive, irrespective of their background.

A statement by Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, disclosed that as part of the initiative, a two-day sensitisation programme will be held across the three senatorial districts of Edo State to raise awareness about the benefits of the partnership and how students can access the subsidized fees and monthly stipends.

“This partnership is expected to help checkmate incidences of students dropout and other hindrances to attaining higher degrees due to financial restraint,” the statement said.

NELFUND, an education loan scheme of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, opened its portal to students of federal tertiary institutions in May 2024.

It provides interest-free loans to eligible Nigerians for higher education, vocational training and skills acquisition.
