Edo Guber Poll: 2,550 Corps Members Trained For Saturday’s Election-NYSC

At least 2,550 Corps members have been trained to participate in the Edo State Gubernatorial Election which will be held on Saturday in 18 local government areas of the State.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed disclosed this during his advocacy visit to 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin City, where he was received by the GOC, 2 Div Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Major General OG Onubogu, who is on election monitoring in Edo State.

Ahmed further stated that the Corps members have been fully sensitized and are ready to abide by the electoral laws.

He therefore appealed for maximum security for all Corps members and NYSC Officials who would work as electoral officers in the election.

He added that Corps members, being the majority of the ad-hoc staff for the election, is a testament to the tremendous successes NYSC has recorded through its participation in previous elections in the country.

“I am here to solicit your support for the security of Corps members who will participate in the election.

“We also seek assistance from other security agencies to oversee the Corps Lodges in the state up till after the election,” he said.

Responding, Major General Onubogu commended Brigadier General Ahmed for his leadership qualities and strong passion for Corps Welfare and Security.

He promised that there will be maximum security for the general conduct of the election throughout the state.

“We are beside you and we shall be there to ensure that nothing happens to any Corps member”, he said.

Also in his response, DIG Frank Mba, who is coordinating policemen on election duty in the state, said the force is ready for a safe and crisis-free election and promised that the police will do everything possible to protect the corps members.

“I want to assure you that we will all work together and do everything within our power to ensure the safety and adequate protection of our Corps Members,” he said.
