…Commends Ganduje For APC’s Victory

The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has applauded national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, following the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Senator Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, while congratulating the APC for its victory, said the exemplary leadership of the national chairman helped the APC secure victory at the poll.

The senator, in a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashiru, also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for preserving the will of the people as demonstrated by their votes noting that the people’s voice continues to be the most powerful force in any democracy.

Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who received 247,274 votes, was defeated by Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, who received 291,667 votes, according to the returning officer, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta.

With 22,763 votes, Labour Party (LP) candidate Olumide Akpata placed third.

According to Barau, the outcome of the election was a “vote of confidence” in President Bola Tinubu.

“The victory of our great party, the All Progressives Congress in last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State is well-deserved. I congratulate the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and all our supporters for this victory. It is not just a victory for the APC but for our democracy and the people of Edo State.

“This victory is a further expression of the confidence of the people of the state in the exemplary leadership and performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since his assumption of office in May last year.

Senator Barau urged contenders who lost in the poll to provide assistance in advancing Edo State, adding that the governor-elect must be humble in his win.
