Edo Govt Probes Killing Of Two, Mum On NSCDC Attack
The Edo State Government said it has begun a full-scale investigation into the killing of two young men in Iyanomo Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The victims, identified as Eboh Enomwa and Stephen Imaghodo, were murdered last week in what officials described as a violent clash between rival factions.
The probe is being led by the state’s Special Security Squad, codenamed Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers, in collaboration with security agencies and community leaders.
The Government House Chief Security Officer, CSP Osaro Roberts, and the Principal Security Officer to the Governor, Okoh Saturday, led a team to the community at the weekend to assess the situation.
Speaking during the visit, Secretary of the Special Security Squad, John Izegaebe, condemned the killings and warned that perpetrators would face justice.
“Our findings so far point to a leadership tussle between two rival factions in Iyanomo, which degenerated into violence and ultimately claimed the lives of two men. This is unacceptable.
“The Governor has directed us to ensure that all those involved in this heinous act are identified, arrested, and prosecuted. No one is above the law.
“The government condoles with the families of the victims and assures them that justice will be served.
“At the same time, we are sending a very strong message to community leaders: disputes must be resolved legally, not through violence.
“Governor Okpebholo has zero tolerance for crime, and anyone who foments unrest in Edo communities will face the full wrath of the law,” Izegaebe said.
Meanwhile, the Edo government has remained silent over the attack on eight officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the weekend.
The official assigned to protect Chinese expatriates working for BUA, a cement company located in Okpella, Etsako East LGA of the state was killed after a gun battle between the personnel and armed men.
The NSCDC reported that the attack which lasted for three hours, led to the death of eight personnel, but four of the expatriates were rescued and safe while one was said to have been missing.
