Edo Flags Off Health Facility Supervision Across 5 LGAs

The Edo State Government in collaboration with the World Bank kicked off a state-wide inspection of primary healthcare centres.

The government disclosed this in a press release on Tuesday, shared on its Facebook page.

The government said the inspection was under the Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) project.

The supervision covered 27 healthcare facilities in Akoko Edo, Ikpoba-Okha, Esan South East, Orhionmwon, and Etsako West local government areas.

Led by national and state health officials, the visits focused on mentoring health workers and checking the availability of equipment, essential drugs, job aids, and hygiene tools like colour-coded waste bins.

“It was commendable to see essential medicines and guidelines in place,” said Dr. Iriah Akhere-Ogbesia, who represented the national team.

However, she noted that “job aids are yet to be pasted in facilities”, and called for immediate action.

During a debrief session in Benin, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Coulson Osoikhia, promised swift implementation.

“We will ensure the job aids are printed and pasted as soon as possible. Governor Monday Okphebholo is committed to making Edo a model for quality primary healthcare,” he said.
