The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commissioned a new 2.5MVA injection substation in Udomi, Esan Central Local Government Area.

The project is set to deliver electricity to at least six surrounding communities, a statement by the government read on Monday.

The statement noted that the governor inspected the completed facility alongside state officials and residents of the benefiting communities.

The substation, according to the government, would supply power to over nine transformers and reduce the current 33KVA line to a more usable 11KVA line.

“This sub-station will open up the area and bring economic development,” Okpebholo said, adding that “Businesses will thrive with regular electricity supply.”

The communities expected to benefit in the first phase of the extension include Udomi 1, Ujabhole 1, Unogbo, Idimoghodor, Ibhioloulu, and Afuda—all in the Uwessan area.

The Business Head of Technical Operations at the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Mokwenye Jidenmah, further confirmed that electricity would begin flowing to the area before the end of the day.

“This is a 2.5MVA injection sub-station. It will energise the area through a red line at 11KVA, and several communities will start enjoying electricity,” Jidenmah said.

Governor Okpebholo also visited the ongoing construction site of the Edo State College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Technology.

He also commended the state House of Assembly for passing the law enabling the project.
