Edo Cancels Sanitation Exercise For UTME
The Edo State Government has announced the cancellation of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that parents of candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in the state were worried that the restriction would hinder candidates’ access to Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers for the exam.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, stated that the decision to cancel the exercise was made in consideration of candidates sitting for the UTME, which commenced on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The statement however urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their immediate environments.
It added that the exercise will commence on the last Saturday of May, 2025 across the State between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
The statement read, “Further to our earlier announcements dated March 15, 2025 and April 22, 2025 respectively on the reintroduced Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise in Edo State scheduled to hold on Saturday April 26, 2025, the general public is hereby informed of the cancellation of the exercise by the State Government.
“The cancellation is premised on the concerns of candidates sitting for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which commenced on Thursday April 24, 2025 across the country. Despite the cancellation, all Edo residents are encouraged to keep their immediate environments clean.
“Consequently, the reintroduced exercise will commence on the last Saturday of May, 2025 across the State between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
“The State Government remains committed to ensuring a safer, healthier and cleaner environment for Edo residents.”
