Easter: NSCDC Deploys 3,500 Officers Across FCT

The FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 3,500 personnel to strategic locations across Abuja to ensure safety and maintain law and order ahead of the 2025 Easter celebrations.

The FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, announced the deployment on Wednesday while addressing officers and men of the Command in preparation for the Easter operations.

According to him, the move is aimed at safeguarding national assets and infrastructure, as well as protecting the lives and property of residents and visitors within the capital territory before, during, and after the festivities.

Odumosu explained that the deployment will cut across various departments and special units, including Operations, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE), Mines and Steel, Special Duty, Anti-Vandal Unit, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Arms Squad, the Female Strike Force, Operation Adakasu, and other tactical teams.

He stressed the importance of securing vulnerable locations and soft targets such as churches, shopping malls, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the city gate, and the 3 Arms Zone.

Additionally, he ordered that all government buildings and areas housing critical infrastructure be closely guarded to prevent incidents of vandalism, often associated with festive periods.

“On no account should any critical infrastructure be vandalised during the Easter holiday. The government has entrusted us with the responsibility to protect lives and property, maintain peace and order, and keep miscreants at bay. We have no excuse for failure,” the Commandant warned

The Commandant directed that covert operations and surveillance of black spots and uncompleted buildings, often used as hideouts by criminals, should commence immediately to prevent any form of security breach or emergency.

Odumosu directed area commanders and divisional officers to ensure effective patrols and visible security presence across their jurisdictions, including all six Area Councils of the FCT.

He further charged officers to exhibit good conduct, collaborate with other security agencies, and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.

“Avoid harassment and intimidation of citizens. There must be no accidental discharge. Any officer found wanting will face strict disciplinary action,” he cautioned.

The Commandant also urged FCT residents to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious movements or activities promptly.

He warned criminals and vandals to steer clear of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, as NSCDC operatives will be actively patrolling the city.

Odumosu extended Easter greetings to Christians in the FCT and prayed for continued peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the nation.
