The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has established over 200 mobile court operations nationwide to prosecute traffic offenders during its special Easter patrol operations.

This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to Mohammed, the special patrol, which will run from Thursday to April 23, is aimed at ensuring a safe, smooth, and incident-free Easter celebration for Nigerians.

He explained that the mobile courts would be instrumental in ensuring swift enforcement of traffic laws and immediate prosecution of offenders.

“To this end, the corps would carry out aggressive enforcement, including conducting over 200 mobile court operations to check offences such as speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, lane indiscipline, road obstructions, use of a phone while driving, overloading, and seatbelt or child restraint use violations,” Mohammed stated.

He further added that other infractions to be targeted include passenger manifest violations, the operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, and improper latching and twist-locking of goods.

The FRSC said it has established a Situation Room at its National Headquarters in Abuja to support the operations. The Situation Room will be responsible for monitoring nationwide activities, gathering and processing information for dissemination to relevant field commands and partner agencies.

The Corps Marshal also instructed commanding officers to collaborate closely with key stakeholders within their areas of operation to bolster logistics, morale, and security support for the exercise.

The stakeholders include military formations, the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Other partners in the operation are the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Traffic Management Agencies, ambulance service providers, the National Network on Emergency Rescue Services (NNES), Federal Road Maintenance Agencies, Federal Fire Service, and various state-owned NGOs.

Mohammed expressed confidence in the preparedness of the corps and called for public cooperation with the FRSC and other security agencies to ensure the success of the operation.

He also disclosed that volunteers would be assisting in traffic management throughout the Easter period.

He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property on roads, especially during festive periods that typically record increased traffic volumes.
