D’Tigers Edge Cameroon 99–90 to Book AfroBasket Quarterfinal Spot

The D’Tigers, Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, defeated Cameroon in an exciting game 99-90 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket, continuing their impressive run.

Nigeria dominated crucial periods of the match despite a late surge by the Cameroonians, showcasing their attacking power in the high-scoring match.

Through tough defence and quick shooting, the D’Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter. Although Cameroon rallied in the second half and reduced the gap, Nigeria’s poise and depth on the bench won the game in the closing seconds.

Nigeria’s backcourt put up impressive displays, combining quickness and outside shooting to put pressure on Cameroon. In order to thwart Cameroon’s late push, the frontcourt also made crucial defensive stops and grabbed crucial rebounds.

The 99-90 triumph demonstrates Nigeria’s increasing self-assurance in the competition as they pursue their fourth AfroBasket championship. After the game, head coach Mohammed Abdulrahaman commended his team’s tenacity and pointed out that discipline and collaboration were crucial.

In their pursuit of continental success and a spot in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifications, the D’Tigers will now turn their attention to the quarterfinals, where they will take on more formidable opponents.

With the victory, Nigeria’s standing as one of Africa’s basketball superpowers is further cemented, and supporters believe the team can repeat its historic AfroBasket victory from 2015.
