Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri

Bayelsa State has been thrown into a mourning mood following the death of the Paramount Ruler of Sagbama Local Government Area, His Royal Highness Auditor Onakpohor who died in a car crash along Sagbama/Ekeremor road.

His Royal Highness was among the dignitaries travelling with the former governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson enroute Sampou to visit Governor Douye Diri as part of the new year activities.

Many of the occupants of the vehicle were injured when the car was involved in an accident and were rushed to the Sagbama General Hospital including the royal father who was said to be in a “critical condition.”

‘Unfortunately, every effort to resuscitate him proved abortive as he was confirmed dead even before arrangements could be made for his transfer to a much better hospital,’’ Commissioner for Special Duties, Michael Magbisa stated.

Magbisa who confirmed the passing on of the Royal Father on his social media handle commiserates with the “Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who was at the hospital in Sagbama ensuring all was in place, the Onakpohor family of the deceased and the entire Ofoni federated community over the unfortunate and painful loss of their Paramount Ruler, HRH Auditor Onakpohor.”

“This is truly a huge loss to Ofoni Community Sagbama LGA, Bayelsa West District and the entire Bayelsa State at large,’’ he said.

“My heartfelt condolences, sympathy and grief go to the family of the deceased. I pray the Lord accepts his soul and grants him eternal rest,’’ he said.

The commissioner thanked “Governor Diri and his deputy who immediately dispatched the Commissioner for Health, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe and other professionals to the Sagbama General Hospital for prompt evacuation of the injured persons.”

“I have also received information that all patients are receiving medical attention at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri and have been confirmed to be in a stable condition,’’ Magbisa added.
