Democracy Day: We’re On Red Alert, Says FCT NSCDC Commandant Odumosu

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has assured residents of maximum security during the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations.
In a phone interview with THE WHISTLER on Thursday, Odumosu revealed that the Corps has deployed personnel across the nooks and crannies of the FCT to safeguard lives, property, and critical national infrastructure before, during, and after the celebrations.
“We are on ‘red alert’,” Odumosu said, adding that “We have deployed our men of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) protection. Our men are monitoring strategic areas.”
The Commandant listed key deployment points including Banex, Area 1 underbridge roundabout, National Assembly, Eagle Square, Berger roundabout, Unity Fountain, and Wuse Market.
According to him, NSCDC personnel in all Area Council divisions have also been mobilized to secure critical assets within their jurisdictions.
He disclosed that officers have been directed to maintain high alert across all flashpoints, protest venues, recreational centres, and rally points.
“Our duty is to ensure adequate protection of government facilities and avert all forms of breakdown of law and order and vandalism planned by sinister and criminal-minded individuals who often hijack peaceful protests to actualize their nefarious activities,” he said.
Odumosu further emphasised that the FCT Command is working in synergy with other security agencies to uphold law and order and ensure the safety of residents.
He urged residents to resist being used by desperate elements to cause chaos, and warned that anyone caught attempting to disrupt the peace would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
