The Delta State Police Command said its operatives foiled a planned abduction of high-profile individuals in Sapele and Oghara of the state.

A press release on Thursday by the command revealed that 184 suspected internet fraudsters were also arrested in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, also disclosed how operatives arrested a suspected spiritual herbalist, Peter Benson, 35.

Benson, according to the police, allegedly prepares ritual fortification for a notorious kidnapping syndicate led by one Owei Abebo, also known as “Adusa”.

Following Benson’s interrogation, the team arrested another suspect, Joseph Saniyo, 63, in Ajakorama Community in Edo State.

Saniyo, described as the syndicate’s primary spiritualist, was found with three live tortoises and other fetish items.

Further raids led to the arrest of the gang leader, Abebo, 42, in Oghara, alongside two male accomplices: Ebi Maye, 41, and Happy Obegha, 39 also from Ajakorama.

The police said, its operatives recovered 247 rounds of live ammunition for a submachine gun (SMG) rifle from their hideouts.

The Command stated that the suspects had plotted coordinated kidnappings which were disrupted by their arrest.

In a separate operation on July 21, the police, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, raided a location within the Post Housing Estate, Effurun.

The location is said to harbour internet fraud and terrorism-financing activities. During the raid, 184 suspects were arrested.

Items recovered include 273 laptops, 97 smartphones, one iPad, one tablet phone, nine laptop chargers, and two Wi-Fi routers.

The police noted that all suspects and exhibits are in custody as investigations continue.
