…As Six Others Die In Gun Battle

The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered N5m in ransom from their hideout.

According to a statement on Tuesday, signed by the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, six other suspected kidnappers were killed in a separate gun battle.

The development, the police said, occurred on July 12, after operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad stormed a suspected kidnapper’s hideout in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The raid, according to the police, resulted in the arrest of one Sanusi Abdulahi, found in possession of the ransom collected from a recent victim.

Police Investigations linked the suspect and his gang to a series of abductions in Ibusa, Obulu-Okiti, Isele-Ukwu, Isele-Asagba, and most recently the kidnapping of a young woman in Ogwashi-Ukwu on July 9.

The statement revealed that Abdulahi’s confession led police to additional hideouts in the Second Deputy and Oko, Asaba, where four more gang members were apprehended.

In a separate incident on July 9, operatives of the CP’s Special Assignment Team clashed with another kidnapping gang along the Patani–Ughelli Expressway, near the Unenurhie axis.

The gang, the police stated, including notorious suspects such as Solomon Danisco, Whisky Rufus and four others, reportedly opened fire on the police during a raid.

“The operatives engaged the criminals in a fierce gun duel. Six of the suspects were fatally wounded and later confirmed dead at the hospital, while two others remain under police custody, receiving medical treatment,” the police said.

The operatives recovered items from the scene, including four locally-made firearms and 19 rounds of live cartridges.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reaffirming its dedication to maintaining peace and security across the state.
