At least, 50 people have been confirmed dead following an attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Darajamal, a community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Reports said the insurgents invaded the remote village on Friday night, shooting at residents and burning houses.

Many villagers fled into nearby bushes, while dozens were killed.

Security officials told security expert, Zagazola Makama that the troops under Operation Hadin Kai, with support from the Air Force, quickly launched coordinated ground operations and multiple airstrikes.

According to one source, surveillance tracked the terrorists as they retreated toward Sambisa forest, and precision airstrikes killed more than 30 of them.

Ground reinforcements later secured the community and surrounding villages.

Troops are still carrying out clearance operations to stop further attacks.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, along with senior military commanders, have already visited Darajamal to assess both the security and humanitarian situation.
