Dangote vs NUPENG: Nigerians cannot afford another fuel scarcity -Tonye Cole
A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tonye Cole, has reacted to the face-off between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG.
Speaking in on Friday an interview on ‘Politics Today’ a programme on Channels Television, the 2023 governorship candidate in Rivers State maintained that Nigerians cannot afford another fuel scarcity.
“Right now Nigerians are such in a difficult situation that the last thing that they want is another fuel crisis on the streets.
“And so that’s why you see the government getting up to intervene in any kind of quarrel between Dangote and NUPENG.
“In democracy, there are certain things that must happen. The first aspect is that let us understand and agree that every private individual or institution would not want a union. That’s not their plan at all.
“However, you cannot operate without checks and balances. And that’s why unions become necessary. They keep a check and balance as far as the workers are concerned.
“But then you have the government that must represent the interests of the people. And when you have everything working together, you have harmony. Nigerians cannot afford another case of fuel scarcity today,” he said.
