Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry became the first NBA player to reach 4,000 3-pointers made in a career after an impressive performance against Sacramento Kings.
The match ended in a 130-104 victory for the Golden State Warriors with Curry needing two 3-pointers to reach 4,000, and he reached the mark after hitting a 3 with 8:19 left in the third quarter.
The historic 4,000th 3-pointer came from the right wing and under pressure off a pass from Moses Moody on his fourth attempt of the night.
He finished the game with 11 points and five assists to go with his two 3-pointers.
Curry holds several 3-point records, including the two longest streaks for most consecutive regular-season games with at least one made 3-pointer at 268 straight games and 157 consecutive games, respectively.
He was delighted to add another feather to his cap.
He said: “It’s a clear milestone threshold.
“A number that I didn’t think about, that it was realistic even from 2,974, which is a number that means the most because that was the record at the time.
“I don’t know how many more I got after that. I will keep pushing it as far as I can. I think it’s one of those things that just puts into perspective just how the game has changed, and I’ve been able to be a part of that.
“I feel like I’m living in a constant-dream kind of vibe. Because from when 2,974 [his all-time record-setting 3-pointer] happened here three years ago, that was never — I mean, [4,000] was a goal, but it was never I never thought it’d be a reality.”
Curry, who became the 26th player in NBA history to score 25,000 points during last Saturday’s home win over Detroit, is in his 16th NBA season.
Golden Warriors coach, Steve Kerr was full of praise for Curry following a record-breaking showing against Sacramento Kings.
He said: “It’s just such an obscene number. It’s hard to even comprehend, and who knows, maybe it’ll be broken someday.
“[But] it’s beyond the numbers. It’s the fluidity and grace. Yes, it’s the audacity [to take some of the Curry 3s], but it’s also the emotion and the beauty of it all. It’s mesmerizing. You see his movement on the floor. He’s like a ballerina out there. You’re not just watching sports, you’re watching art.”
Curry is responsible for 26 of the NBA’s 104 games with at least 10 3-pointers, and also for five of the league’s seven seasons with at least 300 3-pointers.
He is one short of the NBA’s single-game 3-point record of 14.
In 2013, Curry set a record for most 3-pointers in a single season, surpassing Ray Allen’s previous mark of 269.
Curry has the highest career free-throw percentage in NBA history (91.0%) and has led the league in three-pointers made a record eight times.
He made at least one three-pointer in an NBA-record 268 consecutive games from 2018 to 2023 and, in 2016, broke his own record for three-pointers made in a regular season with 402.
