A 24-hour curfew has been imposed in Naka Town, Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State, following an alleged killing of three members of the Civil Protection Guards by suspected armed herdsmen.

The curfew was declared by the Chairman of Gwer-West Local Government Area, Hon. Victor Torsar Ormin on Tuesday, to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area.

According to Ormin in a statement on Tuesday, the attack, which occurred on Monday in On-Mba-Aondo, sparked widespread protests by youths in the area, resulting in the burning down of the Ter Tyoshin’s Palace, the Local Government Secretariat, and other properties.

The chairman condemned the attack and assured citizens that the government is working to bring an end to the senseless attacks and bloodshed, and urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

Ormin also vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, stating that their days are numbered and they will be fished out soon.

“As your Chairman, I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to bring an end to these senseless attacks and bloodshed. The Government of Benue State is working tirelessly to find a durable solution to this crisis, and we are committed to supporting these efforts.

“In the meantime, I have declared a 24-hour curfew in Naka Town, effective immediately, until further notice. This decision was not taken lightly, but it is necessary to prevent further breakdown of law and order and to protect the lives and properties of our citizens.

“I urge all citizens to remain calm and to cooperate with the security agencies as they work to restore peace and order to our community. To those who have lost loved ones, I offer my deepest condolences and sympathies. We share your pain and your grief, and I want you to know that you’re not alone in this difficult time.

“Let me be clear: we will not tolerate any further violence or lawlessness in our community. To the internal miscreants and the invaders who have brought so much pain and suffering to our people, let me say that your days are numbered. We will not rest until you are brought to justice and our community is safe and secure once again,” he said.
