Cross River: Gov Otu’s communities demand for police stations

Akpab Okoyong, Okurikang, Creek Town and surrounding communities, the home community of Governor Bassey Otu in Odukpani LGA of Cross River State, have lamented over the lack of police posts or stations.

Concerned stakeholders from these communities have cried out that they are exposed to the menace of felons and other bad gangs.

They made the appeal to the authorities on Wednesday morning community updates on Sparkling FM.

They disclosed that apart from the State Governor, the former Deputy Governor, Efiok Cobham, hails from Creek Town, and several others have occupied sensitive national offices.

One of them, Ekpenuong Akamba, said, “I am from Okoyong. In the whole of the clan, including other neighbouring communities such as Creek Town and Okurikang, there are no police stations.

“In the 1990s there used to be police posts, but they have since moved away.

“The local people have no protection cover from the police. There are many rampaging gangs terrorising the people and their properties.

“We need police presence in these communities. Surprisingly, we have notable big men in these places.”
