Cross River, Benue Communal Clash: Obudu indigenes reportedly mob, kill Gboko driver
A driver from Gboko in Benue State has been killed by irate mobs in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross Rivers state.
The deceased identified as Tarnenge who is driver from Gboko was going about his business only to be ambushed and stoned to death on a highway by Obudu youths of Cross River State.
Recall that communal clash erupted on Friday between Abonkidi community of Obudu Cross Rivers and Tsar Mbaduku of Vandeikya local Government Area of Benue State.
According to a nephew of the victim Dr Elijah Ikpaanor, he was conveying someone’s goods and these people ambushed and klled him.
“My nephew, Ternenge was a victim in the Obudu/Mbaduku crisis.
“As a driver, he conveyed goods for his passenger to Obudu but never came back. He was ambushed and mobbed to death”.
“Inspite of the cruel and devastating manner that my nephew was killed out of the war environment we restrained ourselves from revenge.
” President General of Kunav United Development Association ,KUDA,Dcn Emmanuel Tor Yaji Who is also the immediate past President of Mbaduku Development Association ,MDA, in conjunction with the entire Mbaduku Traditional Council, appealed to the entire youth and the community to embrace peace and not retaliate.”
There is a ban on any attempt to conduct road blocks and youth have been charged to ensure free access from Vandeikya town to Obudu town.
“As the Vice President of Mbaduku Development Association and a victim, I have aligned with them on every resolution.
“As a family, we have submitted everything to the will of God. May the soul of our nephew and brother rest in peace, Amen.”
The Spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command,DSP, Udeme Edet could not be reached to confirm the incident as at time of this report.
