Cristhian Mosquera Confirms Valencia Exit Ahead of Imminent Arsenal Move
With a deal to Arsenal inevitable, talented Spanish defender Cristhian Mosquera has all but sealed his departure from La Liga club Valencia.
To complete a long-term contract with the Gunners, the 21-year-old is anticipated to go to London for a medical. He will be Mikel Arteta’s fourth summer acquisition.
Mosquera, who has been a key player for Valencia, spoke emotionally about leaving his boyhood club. “Valencia is my home and it always will be,” he told Spanish media. “I arrived when I was 12, and now I’m leaving as a grown man, a little sad because you’ve been here your whole life, but decisions in football are like that. Now a new era begins.” While he did not explicitly name Arsenal, he acknowledged the transition was “exciting, but it’s also sad.”
According to reports, Arsenal and Valencia have reached an agreement for an initial £13 million plus add-ons, which may increase to almost £17 million for the Spanish defender.
‘‘Christian Mosquera’s medical at Arsenal has been booked with documents in place between clubs. Mosquera will sign a long-term deal later this week. Here we go, fully confirmed,’’ transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on his X page.
William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, Arsenal’s first-choice centre-backs, will have competition and cover thanks to this wise signing, which will solidify the team’s defence.
Because of his versatility as a defender, Mosquera can play both left and right centre-back and has even filled in at right-back in the past for his former club, Valencia.
