A 35-year-old security guard at Covenant University, Bukola Akingbade, was on Wednesday sentenced to one-year imprisonment for stealing a bag and mobile phone.

Akingbade was convicted by an Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ota on one count of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adaraloye, disclosed before the court that the convict committed the offence on January 18, 2024 at about 5.30 AM at Covenant University, Ota.

Adaraloye explained that “the security guard working at Covenant University, Ota, stole a bag, containing a cellphone, ATM card, and other valuables worth N200,000, belonging to one Dr Abiodun Eniayekan.”

He noted that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The security guard pleaded guilty before the court presided over by the Magistrate, Mrs O. O Fadairo.

In her judgment, she sentenced the Security Guard to an on-year jail term without an option of a fine.
