A yet-to-be-identified couple was among the victims of a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday around the Soka area, causing panic and heavy traffic congestion along the busy route.

Eyewitnesses said the collision involved three Nissan Micra taxis and three articulated trucks, all reportedly heading from the Iwo Road axis before the incident occurred.

It was gathered that the couple had boarded one of the ill-fated Micra taxis at the nearby Sanyo bus stop. The wife died on the spot, while the husband, who was seated in the front passenger seat, survived with minor injuries.

At least ten people were initially feared dead, with eyewitnesses saying the impact of the crash left several dead and many others injured.

However, confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, Mayowa Odewo, told NAN that five people died in the crash.

According to him, the victims included a male child, one male adult, and three female adults.

Odewo added that seven vehicles were involved in total—three articulated trucks, two private cars, and two Nissan Micra taxis—all of which were severely damaged in the multiple collision.
