Contract Terminated: Iheanacho’s Short-Lived Sevilla Stint Ends Abruptly

Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho’s brief time in La Liga has come to an abrupt end as his contract with Spanish club Sevilla has been terminated.

The decision to terminate the player’s contract comes after a difficult spell for the striker, who struggled to establish himself after joining the Andalusian side in the summer.

“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker, who was linked to the Nervion club until June 30, 2026. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.

The 27-year-old Iheanacho only played a few games for Sevilla and did not contribute to any goals, which fueled curiosity regarding his future.

Sources close to the club believe the termination was a mutual agreement, aimed at freeing up space in the squad and decreasing the wage bill ahead of the January transfer window.

For Iheanacho, the move marks another career setback after leaving Leicester City as a free agent earlier this year.

The Nigerian forward is now available on the market as a free agent, with reports linking him to potential moves in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and MLS.
