Comfort Emmanson Yet To Decide On Lawsuit Against Ibom Air — Lawyer
Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos following an altercation with the airline’s crew, has yet to decide whether to pursue legal action against the carrier.
Her lawyer, Adefunke Maria, revealed this on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.
Maria criticised the actions of a flight attendant, alleging that the crew member prevented Emmanson from disembarking after the Akwa Ibom–Lagos flight on Sunday.
“On the way forward, whether Comfort will allow sleeping dogs to lie, she will inform us. We can’t disclose that online,” Maria said.
“She is a full-grown adult. If she chooses to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. For now, she just needs to rest and put herself together,” she added.
The lawyer also accused the airline’s staff of recording the incident and sharing the footage online, an act she strongly condemned.
Viral videos from the confrontation showed Emmanson in a heated scuffle with a flight attendant as security personnel tried to restrain her. While many Nigerians criticised her behaviour, others faulted the crew member for blocking her exit.
Another clip from the Lagos airport sparked public outrage after showing Emmanson in a state of indecent exposure during a clash with ground staff.
Emmanson was arrested, arraigned, and remanded before being freed on August 13, 2025, following a directive from Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo for the charges against her to be withdrawn.
Keyamo also ordered the lifting of the lifetime flying ban earlier imposed on her by airline operators.
Since her release, several social media users and legal practitioners have urged Emmanson to seek legal redress against Ibom Air.
Emmanson herself, in a Wednesday post on Instagram, stated that she would take some time to rest and get proper medical attention before deciding on the next step.
