Coach Hails Players As Bayelsa Queens Reach WAFU Semis

Bayelsa Queens head coach, Whyte Ogbonda, has praised his players for not losing focus at the crucial moment in the 3-0 win over ASKO FC of Togo in a WAFU ZONE B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers matchday 2 fixture in Yamoussoukro.

The Prosperity Girls defeated ASKO FC through Oumou Ban’s own goal in the 47th minute. In 55 minutes, Alaba Olabiyi made it two for Bayelsa Queens, while Shakirat Moshood added another goal in the 80 minutes to make it 3-0.

The first half of the game ended goalless after anxious moments from both teams, but it was ASKO that came close to scoring in the 23rd minute, but Monle Omini in goal for Bayelsa Queens made a crucial save.

After the game, Coach Whyte Ogbonda said his girls showed zeal and determination to get the job done.

Coach Busari Hakeem, who stood in for Coach Whyte Ogbonda, said they were eager to get the three points, and they are also aware that ASKO are a very good side and won’t allow them to have their way easily. That was why they changed the game plan in the second half, which resulted in getting the goals.

He said, “We didn’t lose focus when we came back for the second half, and I am happy with the quick response of the girls. We will continue to do the same thing we’re doing, taking one game at a time.”

Bayelsa Queens FC midfielder Vera Samuel was named player of the match.

Next for Bayelsa Queens FC is Sam Nelly FC of the Benin Republic on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Prosperity Girls are the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition after earning maximum points from two matches against Police Ladies FC of Ghana and ASKO FC of Togo.
