Club World Cup: Why I didn’t play Rodrygo against PSG – Real Madrid coach, Alonso
Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso has given his reason for not playing Rodrygo in his side’s Club World Cup semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
Rodrygo was an unused substitute against PSG as the French Ligue 1 champions won 4-0.
A brace from Fabian Ruiz and a goal each from Ousmane Dembele and Goncalo Ramos gave the Parisians the victory against the Los Blancos.
When asked why he didn’t play Rodrygo, Alonso said at his post-match interview that it was a technical decision.
“Technical decision,” Alonso said about the absence of Rodrygo.
“We thought we would be better off with other players.”
Real Madrid will now shift their focus to pre-season preparation ahead of the new 2025/26 season.
