Club World Cup 2025: Chelsea aim to stop PSG’s world dominance

The expanded version of the Club World Cup will be concluded on Sunday. And there are two left.

A tournament that began with 36 teams from around the world now sees Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head for the trophy.

The buzz and anticipation was low as the competition kicked off in the US, but fans and pundits have warmed up slowly to it.

There have been a few good games and some upsets. But we have arrived at the homestretch. The last match.

Are Chelsea and PSG the best two teams that qualified for this year’s Club World Cup?

“You could say Chelsea enjoyed the luck of the draw but they are also in the final for a reason,” JJ. Omojuwa, a writer, tells DAILY POST.

“PSG are the best team of this tournament, irrespective of what happens in the final.”

The consensus is that PSG are heavy favourites to defeat Chelsea in Sunday’s final.

Luis Enrique’s men are on a mission to win an unprecedented sextuplet this year.

PSG began 2025 with the French Super Cup, beating Monaco 1-0, before going on to win the Treble of Ligue 1, Coupe de France and UEFA Champions League.

They are now ready to feast on Chelsea’s young team.

“In terms of weakness, Chelsea are a team still in formation and they haven’t been as tested as PSG in this tournament,” Omojuwa said.

“That could come to bear.”

It appears PSG don’t have areas that Chelsea could not take advantage of.

Omojuwa said: “I don’t see any weakness in the PSG team.

“But if I had to exploit something, I’d look to make use of the spades Hakimi and Mendes leave behind when they go forward.

“That’d require effective transitions from the wings.”

It is a tall task for Enzo Maresca’s men.

PSG are on a mission and they look unstoppable. The Club World Cup would be the side’s fifth trophy of 2025 ahead of the UEFA Super Cup against Europa League winners Tottenham on 13th August.

Should they win both, Enrique’s side could complete an unprecedented septuple with the Intercontinental Cup, which they will likely contest against the Copa Libertadores winners.

Can Chelsea throw a chunk in their armour?

“PSG victory. Hard to see it any other way,” Omojuwa replies as a matter of fact.
