China condoles with Nigeria over Buhari’s death
The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has condoled with the government and people of Nigeria following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari at a London hospital on Sunday.
In a condolence message posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Chinese Embassy expressed sorrow over the loss, describing Buhari as a steadfast leader and friend of China.
“We mourn a resolute leader whose unwavering dedication to Nigeria’s unity and progress leaves an enduring legacy.
“His pivotal contributions to advancing China-Nigeria relations will forever remain etched in our shared history. Our thoughts are with his family and the Nigerian people,” the statement read.
Buhari, a retired major general and former military head of state (1983–1985), was widely considered an icon of unity, national integration, and patriotism.
He was also respected for his efforts at fighting corruption and strengthening international partnerships, including deepening diplomatic ties with China during his two-term civilian presidency.
