Chelsea Suffer Double Injury Blow Ahead Brighton Clash

Chelsea are expected to be without the duo of Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu for the FA Cup fourth round clash against Brighton on Saturday.

Jackson suffered a hamstring injury against West Ham on Monday, and he was replaced by Marc Guiu.

Maresca has now confirmed that Marc Guiu will be out of action for the foreseeable future, while Nicolas Jackson is doubtful for the clash against Brighton.

He said: “Marc, unfortunately, it’s a bad injury. We are still waiting but… it looks (like a) long injury. Exactly how long, I don’t know… probably weeks, months, yeah.

“We will see, but it doesn’t look like a long injury.

“Before the last game, we had two strikers, Nico and Marc. Sometimes with (Christopher Nkunku) there. In case they are both out, we are going to find some different solutions.”

Maresca also revealed that he does not regret the club’s inability to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

He said: “I said after the West Ham game that the things that we planned in terms of players that had the desire to leave and the players that we need.”

Chelsea allowed six players to leave in the January transfer window with the likes of Joao Felix, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Cesare Casadei, and Carney Chukwuemeka all departing.

The Blues only brought in midfielder Mathis Amougou from St Etienne.

He also shed more light on João Felix, who was allowed to join AC Milan despite only joining the club in the summer.

Maresca said: “We decided, all together, that it was a good option for him to leave.

“To be honest, he never complained. He has been very good with us, professional, just a matter of my decision.

“The reason why is because I think we need defensive balance and when you have so many attacking players, sometimes you can concede transitions and goals. I don’t like that.”

Christopher Nkunku is expected to lead the line for Chelsea at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.
