Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has insisted that the Blues should have signed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for their manager Enzo Maresca during the summer transfer window.
According to the former Super Eagles captain, the Italian international is the best goalkeeper in the world at present.
Recall that Donnarumma signed for Manchester City from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window.
“I thought we could’ve gone out and brought in another top goalkeeper,” the Nigerian said on The Obi One Podcast.
“There was a certain goalkeeper that was available in the market, the best goalkeeper in the world: Donnarumma. He could’ve just gone out and got him for £26million.
“26-years-old. Mind-blowing. I don’t understand why the club didn’t go out and get him. He’s one of the best goalkeepers right now in the world.
“I know a lot of people say he is not so good with his feet, but what is the goalkeeper’s job? Keep the ball out of the net and Donnarumma is the best at doing that. I don’t understand why the club didn’t do that.
“But again, Enzo Maresca thinks he is comfortable with Sanchez. So, we have to support the manager in his decisions.”
Chelsea currently have goalkeepers such as Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.
