Chelsea Coach Maresca Confirms Madueke’s Departure to Arsenal: ‘Noni Decided to Leave’
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has revealed that winger Noni Madueke is ready to complete his move to Arsenal, admitting that the player decided to leave Stamford Bridge entirely on his own.
Madueke reportedly departed Chelsea’s Club World Cup training camp in the United States to undergo a medical with Arsenal in London, ahead of a £52 million deal.
Maresca addressed the imminent transfer during a news conference ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup final against PSG.
“Noni is in contact with the new club,” Maresca confirmed. “I guess he will be announced in the next few hours.”
When asked why Chelsea would sell a player to a direct rival, Maresca clarified that the club did not pressure Madueke to leave.
“I said in one of the recent press conferences that if players want to leave, then it is difficult for both the club and the manager,” he explained. “Noni chose to leave; no one told him he had to go. If he’s happy, so are we.”
A medical examination for Madueke and the exchange of paperwork are scheduled as part of the expected swift transaction between Arsenal and Chelsea.
Madueke’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium will provide competition and cover for Bukayo Saka on the flanks, while also strengthening Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.
With four assists and 11 goals in all competitions last season, the versatile winger—who can play on either the left or right wing—was a valuable contributor for Chelsea.
