Chelsea Closing In On Dortmund Star Gittens
Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Dortmund star Jamie Bynoe-Gittens after negotiations with the Bundesliga club entered final the stages on Tuesday.
The Blues have earmarked the English winger as a priority signing following their lack of options in the left-wing position.
Dortmund rejected Chelsea’s offer before the start of the Club World Cup, stating that the offer was below their valuation.
Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for Gittens but Chelsea are expected to win the race to sign the former Manchester City academy player.
Enzo Maresca’s men are closing in on an agreement with Dortmund, according to Transfer Expert, Fabrizio Romano who confirmed the news on social media.
He wrote on X: “Chelsea are now close to completing the Jamie Bynoe-Gittens deal from BVB. Direct meeting with Borussia Dortmund took place on Monday and negotiations continue, at the final stages.
“Chelsea maintain a seven-year agreement with the player’s camp, Bynoe-Gittens wants the move as links with FC Bayern move are not confirmed despite recent reports.”
Gittens started his career at Manchester City’s Academy before moving to Dortmund in 2022, he has established himself as a key player for the Bundesliga club.
The 20-year-old scored 12 goals for Dortmund in all competitions last season.
He is a pacey right-footed winger who is comfortable on the left flank, Gittens’ top speed of 22.34mph last season was the 16th fastest in the German top flight.
Gittens ranked in the top two percent among wingers for successful dribbles in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024-25.
Chelsea have Tyrique George as the only natural left winger following Mykhailo Mudryk’s doping case, and Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United.
