Charlie Kirk’s Suspected Killer Named As 22-year Old Tyler Robinson

The suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been named as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, following an FBI operation and a tipoff from the suspect’s family.
At a news conference in Utah, Governor Spencer Cox declared: “We got him.” He revealed that Robinson was turned in after confessing or hinting his involvement to relatives.
A family member contacted a friend, who then alerted a local sheriff, leading federal agents to Robinson’s location.
Cox outlined how investigators pieced the case together. According to him, Robinson’s roommate provided Discord messages showing Robinson discussing retrieving a rifle from a hidden drop point, engraving bullets, and switching outfits after the attack.
The suspect described the rifle as “unique” and mentioned using a scope.
Surveillance video captured Robinson arriving at Utah Valley University in a Dodge Challenger around 8:30 a.m. on the day of the shooting, wearing a maroon t-shirt, light shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and pale shoes which were consistent with eyewitness descriptions.
Bullet casings recovered at the scene included one unfired round with the words: “Hey fascist! Catch!”, inscribed on it.
Cox also said Robinson’s family had noticed his growing radicalisation. He had become “more political” in recent years and at a dinner days before the shooting told relatives he disliked Kirk and his viewpoints.
According to Cox, Robinson had described Kirk as “full of hate and spreading hate.”
Background information gathered by the BBC indicates Robinson moved from Cedar City to Logan in 2022 to attend Utah State University. BBC also reports that social media pages associated with his family show visits to gun ranges, though images of Robinson himself have since been removed.
Earlier, President Donald Trump, speaking in a Fox News interview, confirmed the arrest, saying he was briefed just minutes before going on air.
“With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody. The FBI, Utah police, everybody did a tremendous job. And you know what? A family member—actually a person of faith, a minister—turned him in, ” Trump said.
“The father convinced the son, and they drove him straight into police headquarters. That’s America,” he stated.
The president paid tribute to Kirk, stating: “Charlie like a son, he was a brilliant guy. He helped us reach young people—nobody did it better. This animal tried to silence him, but he failed. Charlie’s voice is bigger now than ever.”
“Next week, we’ll honour him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. And I’ll say it clearly: I hope his killer gets the death penalty. Full justice, no deals,” Trump vowed.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Robinson is in custody and said the investigation will now focus on his planning, political motives, and whether he had any accomplices.
