Senegal coach, Souleymane Diallo, has reacted to his side’s victory over Nigeria at the 2024 African Nations Championship, DAILY POST reports.
The title holders defeated their fellow West Africans 1-0 in a keenly contested Group D tie at the Amman Stadium, Zanzibar on Tuesday night.
Christian Gomis’ 75th minute strike separated both teams on the night.
The home-based Super Eagles dominated possession for most of the game but Senegal’s high pressing, and mental toughness gave them the edge.
Diallo eulogised his players for showing strong character against Eric Chelle’s men.
“It was team solidarity,” Diallo said post-match, when asked what made the difference on the day,” Diallo told CAF’s official website.
“We played like a team—high press, counter-press, compact blocks. The players showed character and intelligence.”
