Carabao Cup: Why Man Utd lost to Grimsby Town – Amorim
Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has admitted the best team won as they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils are yet to win any match this season and were two goals down in the first half.
Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren gave the League Two side a two-goal lead in the first half, before Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire levelled for the Red Devils.
But Grimsby Town won the ensuing penalty shoot-out 12-11 to progress into the third round.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Amorim said: “I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch.
“The best players lose because one team can win against any group of players, and I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that’s it.
“We lost, the best team won.
“The way we started the game without any intensity, all the idea of the pressure, we were completely lost and that’s why I think they spoke really loud.”
