Bystanders Abandon Hit-And-Run Victim For Death Over Fear Of ‘Police Statement’
A tragic incident has unfolded at the NNPC junction in Kubwa, Abuja, where a pedestrian was knocked down by a vehicle and left to die on the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred Wednesday evening, and despite calls to the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), no assistance was rendered.
“We have been calling the Road Safety since yesterday when it happened but they didn’t respond to our calls,” one of the witnesses accused the FRSC.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was allegedly left unattended for several hours until Thursday morning when the officials of FRSC arrived.
During an interview with THE WHISTLER, bystanders, including car loaders in the area, revealed that they refrained from taking the victim to the hospital due to fear of being interrogated by the police and required to provide a statement.
“If na you, will you take him? “ They asked the reporter.
“If you go to take him to the hospital, the police will start asking you for a statement and they will put you in the cell,” they said.
As of the time of this report, FRSC officials had arrived at the scene and were attempting to retrieve the victim, who is feared to have succumbed to his injuries.
