Burna Boy Finally Reacts To Backlash Over Speed Darlington’s Arrest
Afrobeats artist Burna Boy has broken his silence on recent controversies he faced over rapper Speed Darlington’s arrest and detention in Owerri, Imo State.
In an Instagram story, the 33-year-old expressed frustration over what he perceives as double standards in public discourse.
“When they talk, nobody cares, but when I react, it’s a nuclear disaster,” he wrote.
The “Last Last” hitmaker suggested that his career success has influenced his more careful approach to controversies.
“Y’all don’t know how lucky you are that I have too much to lose now,” he stated.
In a mix of English and Pidgin, Burna Boy added that his silence should not be taken for weakness: “Walahi, a lot of you would not be here no more. Anyway, make I just go buy another thing to relax. Bundle by bundle! No sign of weakness!”
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 in Owerri, Imo Statexl, and his legal team pointed fingers at Burna Boy for allegedly orchestrating the arrest.
This came after Darlington made controversial statements about Burna Boy’s connection to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who executive produced Burna’s Grammy-winning album “Twice As Tall.”
Darlington raised unfounded questions about the duo’s relationship and the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy Award, particularly in light of Diddy’s current legal challenges involving allegations of sex trafficking.
Stan Alieke, Darlington’s legal representative, confirmed on Monday that his client has been granted bail though details surrounding the arrest and subsequent charges remain unclear.
