The body of Nigerian ex-president Muhammadu Buhari has departed the United Kingdom for Nigeria.

According to Channels Television’s morning brief programme, the body of the late president was onboard for Nigeria as of 7:45 am Nigerian time.

On Monday, the Nigerian government declared Tuesday a public holiday in honour of Buhari’s burial, slated in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Recall that Buhari died on Sunday at a London clinic at 82 years.

President Bola Ahmed on Sunday directed the vice president and other top government officials to accompany the former president’s body from the UK to Nigeria.

A committee headed by the country’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has been inaugurated to give the late Nigerian president a state-wide burial on Tuesday.

Buhari is expected to be buried at 2:00 pm Nigerian time on Tuesday.
